Monday, May 31st – No Class Meetings – Memorial Day Weekend

Wednesday, June 2nd: Marketing Art Online

Due:

  • Revised bio and artist statement (posted to your blog).
  • Journal response (only one due this week).
  • Should be working on your critical evaluation draft.

Assignment (for next class):

  • Locate at least three possible (reputable) places that sell art, whether online or in a gallery and within your medium/genre, that is NOT directly through the artist’s website or an established institutional one (i.e. gallery, artist’s collective, etc.). Come into class with the website address, a few printed sample pieces from each site, and be prepared to discuss what works well and what doesn’t about the layout and design of the site, how effectively the artwork is displayed, and how well descriptions of the artwork are written.
  • Write a first draft “product” description for two pieces of your own art.
  • REMINDER: Critical Evaluation draft – Due Monday, June 7th.

Friday, June 4th: Business Proposals, Grants, and Budgets

Due:

  • “Product” description (w/ accompanying images).
  • Three examples of selling/marketing art online.

Assignment (for next class):

  • Create a draft project outline for either a business proposal or grant proposal and create a preliminary budget (see handout).

  • Keep checking out other artist web sites (for layout/design and the way they structure everything).
  • Final resume / should go up onto your website portfolio.

  • Final resume should be up on your website portfolio.
  • Bring a sample “review” to class for discussion & be prepared to discuss what works well, what doesn’t, and why.

  • Read: Art Criticism handouts (“The Skills of Art Criticism” and “Guidelines” and “How Do We Talk and Write About Art?”)  – to discuss in class after break.
  • Finalize artist and bio statement and update your blog.

Hi folks – welcome to your course blog! This is where I will post individual student blog links, as you create your own website portfolios, weekly assignments/readings, useful links, and assundry thoughts as we go through this very short semester.

You may respond to any of the postings by clicking on the “comments” link, though the majority of your work will be done on your own individual blog sites.

In order to create your own blog, which you will be using for your online portfolio, you MUST register with WordPress and choose a site name. Email me with any questions and/or problems you have signing up!  :)
